YouTube star takes the Holden Commodore* around the Nürburgring
This Chevrolet SS – better known as the Holden Commodore – received a rude welcome to the Nürburgring from Misha Charoudin.
There are few cars Nürburgring specialist Misha Charoudin hasn’t taken around the Nordschleife course, and now he can tick the Holden Commodore off that list (kind of) after taking the Australian muscle on the Green Hell.
Loaned to Charoudin by its German-based, American owner, the Chevrolet SS – the US market VF Holden Commodore – was taken on a hot lap of the Nordschleife by Charoudin, who has logged hundreds of laps at the facility, and competitively races there too.
Having started its life in Elizabeth, South Australia on Holden’s production line, the Commodore was rebadged as the Chevrolet SS before being exported to the US, with this example now living its life in Germany, complete with a speedometer in the country-correct kilometres per hour.
We’ll let you watch the video to hear Charoudin’s review of the Chevy SS, which in this form as a 2016 model was fitted with Brembo brakes, the updated VF II fascia, as well as standard magnetic dampers and a paddle-operated six-speed automatic transmission.
Powered by the 6.2-litre ‘LS3’ engine shared with the C6 Chevrolet Corvette and Camaro SS, the 309kW Chevy SS was sadly not a sales success in the US, despite being heavily promoted as the brand’s NASCAR body of choice from 2013 to 2017.
It’s not the first time a Commodore has appeared at the Nürburgring, with regarded privateer racer Mal Rose having competed at the circuit’s 24 Hour race in the late 2000s with an ex-V8 Supercars VY Commodore.
