The final ZB-generation Holden Commodore is one of the most controversial cars ever sold by the brand locally, but it went on to find success in the Supercars championship.

Between its debut in 2018 until the end of the Gen 2 era in 2022, the ZB Commodore notched up two championships in the hands of Shane Van Gisbergen, with his chassis ‘888A-054’ notching up 39 wins, the most in the history of the sport.

The ZB Commodore also won four Bathurst 1000s, and now a road-going example used by Supercars supremos Triple Eight is for sale in South Australia.

Listed by Collectable Classics & Complete Auto Solutions, the ZB Commodore RS was a promotional car for Triple Eight from 2018 until 2022, and was retained by the team until 2025 when it was sold at auction for $18,888.

When used as a promo car, it was fitted with the full bodykit of the race car, including its larger front bumper, low side skirts and big rear wing, though the latter has since been removed.

It rides on 20-inch Triple-Eight engraved replica wheels of the Team Dynamic-supplied control rims fitted to Supercars racers from 2013 to 2022, while its body is in the standard ‘Summit White’ which was available as a no-cost colour.

Aside from its lowered suspension, there are no additional modifications to the Commodore RS, which was a rebadged Opel Insignia.

Powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, the ZB Commodore RS produced 191kW and 350Nm, which drove the front wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission.

While it was previously sold for $18,888 a year ago, the latest listing has its price as $16,888, roughly the market price of a Commodore RS with approximately 65,000km on its odometer.

Ironically, the ‘888’ pricing convention is continuing this year with Ford’s Mustang Dark Horse T8-Spec Pack, which features Triple Eight enhancements, for the price of $138,888 before on-road costs.

Ford is only a handful of months away from starting deliveries of the Mustang Dark Horse T8-Spec Pack, something which Triple Eight boss Jamie Whincup wants to be the first of many collaborations.
