Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD

General Motors Specialty Vehicles has revealed its newest addition, the imposing Chevrolet Silverado 2500 Heavy-Duty.

The big US pickup will join the line-up in November sitting above the Silverado 1500 LTZ and LT Trail Boss already offered by the American brand down under. The Silverado 2500 HD is for those who want a big truck for towing or similar hard work.

Powered by a 6.6-litre V8 turbo diesel engine, making 322kW of power and a massive 1220Nm of torque, paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission. The 2500 HD is rated to tow up to 8000kg and take 2000kg in the tray in the US, although GMSV haven’t revealed the final specifications for Australia as it awaits local certification. Although the company has confirmed how big the tray is, measuring 2104mm long and 1814mm wide.

Joanne Stogiannis, director of GMSV, said the 2500 HD is the obvious next addition to the brand’s local line-up as Australian demand for these US-style utes continues to grow.

“We’ve enjoyed a huge response to the new Chevrolet Silverado product and, with the impending arrival of the new HD, will have three very different truck propositions to satisfy a huge variety of customer needs and wants,” Stogiannis said.

“We anticipate the key to the success of the new Silverado HD is a commitment to maintain a truck-worthy, torque-rich diesel engine, as it’s a powertrain which has widespread appeal.”

GMSV will convert the truck to right-hand drive locally, as it does with the 1500, and all local models will come fitted with the ‘Appearance Pack’ that’s optional in the US. This adds body-colour front and rear bumpers, black hood vent and low skid plate, body-colour door handles, spray-on bed liner and 20-inch black wheels.

The Australian-bound 2500 HD will also be in Z71 Off-Road Package, which includes twin-tube shocks, Hill Descent Control and skid plates.

It will come equipped with plenty of safety too, with the ‘Technology & Safety Pack 2 also fitted as standard. This consists of front and rear park assist, lane departure warning with blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, low-speed autonomous braking, front pedestrian braking and stability with traction control.

The Silverado 2500 HD LTZ Premium will be priced from $144,990 (plus on-road costs).
