Jeep Australia has advised owners of certain Wrangler and Gladiator models to “park away from structures or other vehicles until the remedy is obtained”, as it aims to find a fix for a fault which can cause a fire.

A total of 9199 Wranglers and Gladiators in Australia built between 2020 and 2024 are impacted by a power steering pump fault, which has been linked to an increased risk of a vehicle fire.

“Some of the listed vehicles may have an Electric Hydraulic Power Steering Pump (EHPSP) electrical connection susceptible to high resistance,” Jeep said in its recall notice, published by the Department of Infrastructure.

“Some customers may experience a loss of power steering assist or a "Service Power Steering" Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC).

“In some circumstances, high resistance electrical activity may take place in the area of the EHPSP connection causing overheating of combustible materials.

“Overheating of combustible materials in the vehicle or surrounding area may potentially lead to a fire. A fire can result in increased risk of occupant injury and injury to persons outside the vehicle.”

Globally, Jeep has recalled more than 1.3 million vehicles due to the fault, though there is no remedy for it in Australia, where owners have been told to park their vehicles away from other objects where possible.

“Out of an abundance of caution, Stellantis Australia (Jeep’s parent company) is advising owners of these vehicles to park away from structures or other vehicles until the remedy is obtained.

“The remedy for this condition is not currently available. Dealers will be notified of the launch of this safety recall by way of established communication methods. This recall is estimated to launch in the 3rd Quarter of 2026.

“Stellantis Australia will contact the owners of affected vehicles via mail, email or via phone once a remedy is available. After you receive correspondence, you can contact any authorized Jeep dealer to have the Safety Recall Campaign remedy completed.”
