2024 Supercars Champion Will Brown has unveiled his latest project car, joining fellow Lucky Dogs podcast host, 2023 champion Brodie Kostecki, in modifying an old Ford.

In the first of a planned 12-part YouTube series, Brown revealed a 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback has joined his already impressive car collection, which includes Nissan Skylines, Ford Escorts and an XW Falcon GT-HO.

While the Mustang is running and already in good condition, the current Triple Eight driver is giving it over to famed car builder Rob Zahabi of Rides by Kam to undertake its extensive customisations.

Rides by Kam is no stranger to working on the personal cars of Supercars stars, having most notably worked on Tickford Racing’s Cam Waters’ Falcon XB Coupe, powered by an ex-FPR 5.0-litre V8 engine.

For Brown’s Mustang, the plan is to follow the same path and fit a Supercars engine into it, with a number of options on the table, including engines from Chaz Mostert and Ryan Wood’s former cars – understood to be from their Gen3 Mustangs, which would mean a 5.4-litre ‘Coyote’ V8.

Though the project is in its early stages, Brown and Zahabi have said it’ll get a widebody makeover and likely ride on airbags, while a manual transmission will put the V8’s power to the road.

Unlike Kostecki, whose XF Ford Fairmont Ghia project is being done behind closed doors with periodic updates, Brown says he’ll let fans help choose elements of his Mustang, such as its paintwork and interior.

Work is yet to start on the Mustang, with Brown announcing on social media that he will have it and his Mk1 Ford Escort at this weekend’s Supercars Ipswich Super 440 event, as a part of his Will Brown Transport display, along with two tilt-tray trucks.

The Red Bull Ampol Racing driver will also be driving to the circuit on both race days in two of his other classics, the aforementioned XW Falcon and an R34 Nissan Skyline.
