Toyota HiLux defect impacts almost 17,000 vehicles
Almost 17,000 examples of the Toyota HiLux are subject to a ‘customer service exercise’, due to a potentially faulty powered roller cover.
Toyota Australia has initiated a ‘customer service exercise’ for the 2020 to 2024 Toyota HiLux Rogue, affecting approximately 16,995 examples of the ute.
Not technically classified as a recall, the almost 17,000 HiLux Rogues require a fix for their power operated roller cover which may become jammed or unable to be opened or closed.
According to Toyota, if this occurs, the motor may remain active, potentially causing it to overheat and cause further damage.

The potential fault only affects the HiLux Rogue which was fitted as standard with the powered roller cover. No other variants are impacted.
Vehicles built between May 29, 2020 and April 8, 2024 are covered by the customer service exercise, which will result in Toyota dealers inspecting the roller cover for “evidence of overheating, replace if required, then inspect/adjust roller cover track width, update the ECU software and install metal drive pin connectors (if required)”.

Toyota Australia says that the inspection and repair of the roller cover could take up to approximately 3.5 hours, though owners may be required to make the vehicle available for a longer period of time.
Owners will be contacted by Toyota if they have kept their contact details up to date with the carmaker, or they can contact the Toyota Campaign Helpline on 1800 987 366.
