Move over Ford, Subaru is back as the star attraction of the Gymkhana video series.
When Ken Block started his hit viral video Gymkhana series he did it in lightly-modified WRX STI, only to make his high-profile switch to the blue oval for the third installment onwards. But with Block hanging up his helmet (at least for Gymkhana videos) now Subaru has returned with this wild-looking 2020 WRX STI that Travis Pastrana will drive in the 11th Gymkhana film.
Subaru USA worked with its local rally team, Vermont Sports Cars, and Gymkhana producers, Hoonigan, to create the ultimate WRX STI. Free from any regulations the three parties have come up with this wild machine that features an exhaust popping out of the bonnet and that massive rear wing.
“This STI is unbelievable!” Pastrana said. “We’ve never had the opportunity to do this before, to build a car with no restrictions. Engine, suspension, aero – everything is unlimited, clean sheet. It’s crazy fast, easy to control and get sideways and it was perfect out of the box in testing. Gymkhana is a new challenge for me but I want to raise the bar, and this is the car to do it.”
Hoonigan is set to release the new Gymkhana by the end of 2020, but the exact timing hasn’t been revealed yet. But Pastrana and Subaru have promised a “new take on the Gymkhana concept.”
