Arguably the most iconic car of the 1970s and ‘80s is making a comeback – the Lamborghini Countach.
The Italian supercar brand is expected to take the wraps off the revived machine later this week at the Monterey Car Week in California. But the brand has confirmed the new model will carry the Countach name and has teased what we can expect to see.

In a series of social media teasers, Lamborghini has confirmed the long-running rumour that it will bring back arguably its most famous nameplate. The Countach launched in 1974 and ran until 1990, becoming a literal poster-child for supercars around the world with its dramatic wedge-shaped body.
The company has been celebrating the 50th anniversary of the car’s creation this year, leading up to this week’s revival.
According to its social media tease: “We make dreams come true. We did it with the classic Countach in the 1970s. And we’re doing it again. The new Lamborghini Countach is coming.”
The accompanying image shows a car underneath a cover but the silhouette bares a striking resemblance to the original, wing-less, Countach of the 1970s.

Technical details are unofficial at this point but it’s believed it will use the same powertrain as the limited edition Sian hypercar, combining the brand’s 6.5-litre V12 engine with a supercapacitor hybrid system. That should give the new Countach more than 600kW of power to play with.
Also like the Sian, the Countach will sit on the Aventador platform, effectively making it the final iteration of the brand’s hero model before it is replaced sometime in 2022.
As we recently reported, the Aventador replacement will get an all-new V12 engine coupled with an all-new hybrid system as the brand begins its transition to electrification.
