Fledgling Australian supercar brand Brabham Automotive has revealed its second creation – the BT63 GT2. This is the car that will officially take the Brabham name back to racing as an official constructor, competing in the recently-created GT2 European Series.
The BT63 GT2 is an evolution of the BT62R, the road-legal version of the BT62 track-only special that was the first model released by the revived Brabham Automotive, which has its base in Adelaide. While the brand is yet to reveal detailed specifications it confirmed that it will use the same platform and similar aerodynamic package (wing, diffuser and splitter) as the BT62R. The Ford-based V8 engine will be tuned to make 447kW (600hp) and the car will weigh between 1250-1300kg.

It will be priced at $650,000, a huge difference from the $1.8 million price tag for the more extreme, unlimited BT62. For context, the BT62 makes 522kW and weighs just 972kg, making it significantly quicker as it doesn’t have to conform to any series regulations.
The new model is officially known as the BT63 GT2 Concept for now as it has to be homologated by GT2 series organisers, SRO Motorsport Group to enter the 2022 season. Once it has passed homologation it will compete against the four other homologated GT2 cars – Audi R8 LMS GT2, Porsche 911 GT2 RS Clubsport, Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo GT2 and KTM X-Bow GT2.
Before that happens the SRO will allow the Brabham to compete in the final round of the 2021 season finale at Paul Ricard, France on October 1-3. David Brabham will be on hand in his role as Sporting Director, with two yet-to-be-named drivers, behind the wheel of the new model. Fittingly, Paul Ricard is the site of Brabham’s final win as a constructor, with Nelson Piquet winning the 1985 French Grand Prix.

“Following on from the success of our customer racing programme in the UK with the competition spec BT62 in GT Cup, Brabham Automotive is excited that SRO has extended an invitation for Brabham Automotive to race in the Fanatec GT2 European Series,” David said. “Having personally competed in SRO series in the past, I very much look forward to seeing a Brabham on track in this series.”
SRO founder and CEO, Stephane Ratel, is happy to have a fifth manufacturer sign up for his latest sports car series.
“We are delighted that Brabham Automotive will be making its debut in the Fanatec GT2 European Series in October this year,” Ratel said. “I would personally like to welcome back David Brabham to an SRO promoted series, especially with the superb Brabham BT63 GT2 Concept, a car bearing his name. The BT63 GT2 will be a great addition to the SRO GT2 category, and will contribute to the continued growth and success of the series.”
Brabham Automotive has previously said it would look to enter competitive motorsport before expanding its range to eventually include a bespoke road-going supercars.
