2027 Mitsubishi Pajero price and specs: New-gen 4x4 up to $20,000 more than predecessor
The return of the Mitsubishi Pajero has brought significant price rises over the Pajero Sport it effectively replaces, putting the SUV into Ford Everest and Toyota Prado territory.
Mitsubishi Australia has locked in local pricing and specifications for the new Pajero ahead of its showroom arrival in December 2026, representing a sharp increase compared to the departed Pajero Sport.
Revealed yesterday, the new fifth-generation Pajero is the first in Australian showrooms since 2021 when the traditional monocoque-based, Japanese-built 4x4 was discontinued, at the time leaving the Triton-based Pajero Sport as the brand’s adventure challenger (no pun intended).
The returning Pajero is effectively a successor to the Pajero Sport as much as the multiple generations which have carried the nameplate, moving to the ladder-frame underpinnings of the Triton, while it’ll also be manufactured in Thailand.
It pushes the Pajero – long an alternative to the Nissan Patrol and Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series – into the realm of the Toyota LandCruiser Prado and Ford Everest, two of Australia’s most popular ladder-frame SUVs.
Below is a breakdown of the upcoming 2027 Mitsubishi Pajero lineup, such as pricing, powertrain, dimensions and equipment specifications.
2027 Mitsubishi Pajero Australian pricing
Mitsubishi will offer four grades of the Pajero locally, with the range opened by the entry-level GLS five-seater, starting from $68,490 before on-road costs – a $16,950 increase over the Pajero Sport GLX it replaces.
For context, a four-cylinder Ford Everest Active starts from $58,990 plus on-roads, with the more potent V6 opening from $66,990. Likewise, the Toyota Prado GX opens from $73,200 before on-roads.
Stepping up to the Pajero GLS seven-seat adds $1500 to the price tag, rising $13,100 over the previous Pajero Sport GLS, which offered more equipment than its GLX sibling.
The Exceed remains as the more premium mid-range trim, now priced from $79,990 (up $17,400 over Pajero Sport Exceed), while the flagship Pajero GSR is on sale from $84,990, representing a huge $20,150 (or 30 per cent) price rise compared to the equivalent Pajero Sport.
Engine and transmission
It’s a familiar sight under the bonnet to anyone used to a Triton or Pajero Sport, with Mitsubishi’s trusty ‘4N16’ turbo-diesel powering the Pajero.
The 2.4-litre single-turbo four-cylinder produces 150kW and 480Nm, 10Nm more than the bi-turbo Triton, and healthy increases of 17kW and 50Nm over the Pajero Sport.
An eight-speed automatic transmission sits behind the engine, and is mated to Mitsubishi’s ‘Super Select 4WD-II’ system, allowing drivers to choose between 2H (rear-wheel drive), 4H (full-time 4WD), 4HLc (locked center differential), and 4LLc (locked center differential with low-range gears).
No fuel economy data has been released yet, however Mitsubishi has confirmed the Pajero features an 80-litre tank (12 litres more than the Pajero Sport), while also now requiring AdBlue, like the Triton.
Dimensions
Measuring 4920mm long, 1925mm wide and 1910mm high, compared to the previous Pajero Sport, the new Pajero is 95mm longer, 110mm wider, and sits 75mm taller, at least on its 20-inch wheels, while its wheelbase has grown by 70mm to 2870mm.
Its off-road ability has been enhanced through wider front and rear tracks of 1630mm (compared to the Pajero Sport’s 1520mm front and 1515mm rear figures), a greater ground clearance of 230mm (up 12mm).
While its approach and departure angles have risen to 30.4 degrees (from 30 degrees) and 25.8 degrees (from 24.2 degrees) at the front and rear, respectively, its breakover angle has dropped from 23.1 degrees to 22.6 degrees.
A braked towing capacity of 3500kg puts it on par with the Prado and Everest, while beating the Pajero Sport’s 3100kg figure.
Finally, Mitsubishi quotes a VDA boot space of 519 litres with the third row folded, an increase of 17 litres.
