Maserati tends to live in Ferrari’s shadow, but this car might help them get the spotlight. It’s called the Maserati GT2 Stradale and it’s the brand’s newest supercar.
Revealed at the recent Monterey Car Week, the GT2 Stradale started life as the brand’s MC20 sports car but is given an injection of racing DNA from the MC20 GT2 machine. Maserati has wound up all the performance parameters of the MC20 but made sure the GT2 Stradale remains street legal.
The twin-turbo V6 engine has its performance bumped up to 477kW (instead of the 463kW of the standard MC20), while it also goes on a diet to save 60kg of weight. This helps it sprint 0-100km/h in just 2.8 seconds and the new aerodynamic kit helps it corner faster.
“Maserati GT2 Stradale is a unique product, bringing together as it does the brand’s greatest sporting heritage, and at the same time representing evolution of one of Maserati’s most iconic vehicles, the MC20 halo car,” explained Davide Grasso, Maserati CEO. “This model intended for everyday driving was created based on the desire to offer our customers more and more in terms of technical mastery, innovation, design and emotions in road driving: on the one hand, we find sophisticated solutions reserved for models designed for track use only, the epitome of Maserati’s racing DNA; on the other, we can guarantee optimal comfort paired with all the most advanced driver assistance systems.”
