This one’s for the purists.
At a time when more and more supercars and sports cars are getting turbocharged engines and all-wheel drive systems, Lamborghini has revealed its purest model – the Huracan Evo Rear-Wheel Drive.
The follow-up to the Huracan Evo that launched in 2019, this newest addition to the Rampaging Bull’s line-up is all about the driver. Powered by a naturally-aspirated V10 engine it sends all of its 449kW of power and 560Nm of torque to the tarmac via the rear-wheels; instead of the usual all-wheel drive set-up. That may be slightly less grunt than the Evo AWD – 21kW and 40Nm to be precise – but the Italian brand promises it will be more fun to drive.
Lamborghini’s engineers recalibrated the traction control system to allow more slip angle and a smoother delivery of the torque, especially when you’re sliding to allow the driver to have better control.
“The Huracan Evo rear-wheel drive puts the car in the driver’s hands: the driving experience is delivered by the hardware,” explains Lamborghini CEO, Stefano Domenicali.
“This car reminds the driver of Lamborghini’s pure engineering origins: the driver is at the center of the Huracán Evo RWD’s performance, with unfiltered feedback and an emotive and more engaging driving experience controlled by the pilot. The Huracán Evo RWD performance relies on the harmony between man and machine: driving skills and the Huracán Evo’s RWD mechanics deliver perfectly balanced dynamics, physical feedback and a pure performance.”
Lamborghini’s designers also gave the RWD some unique styling elements compared to its AWD sibling. There’s a new front splitter, with a more aggressive look thanks to vertical fins that frame a larger air intake. At the rear there’s a new bumper in high gloss black as well as a new aerodynamic diffuser that has been shaped with the Evo RWD.
Australian deliveries are expected to begin by the middle of the year.
