Will this become Australia’s most expensive Holden?

2017 HSV GTSR W1 Maloo

A one-of-a-kind Holden ute could set a new record for an Australian-made road car if it can find a buyer willing to pay the asking price.

The 2017 Holden Special Vehicles GTSR W1 Maloo is currently being offered for sale for $1,500,000, which would smash the record for a road-going Holden. It’s currently held by Peter Brock’s personal 1985 VK Commodore SS Group A, which sold for $1,057,000 in 2021.

This is the same ‘Yellah’ GTSR W1 Maloo that was up for sale with Lloyds Auctions in September 2021.

While it’s latest asking price may seem astronomical, there’s good reason for it. HSV only built four examples of this model, each made for long-time, loyal customers and each with the same supercharged ‘LS9’ V8 Chevrolet engine that made it the most powerful production car this country has ever produced.

2017 HSV GTSR W1 Maloo

The last time one of this quartet of W1 Maloos was publicly traded it fetched a then-record price of $1.05m. While bidding reportedly reached as high as $1.15m the sale was not eventually completed, so it provides those who have missed out another chance to try and grab this piece of history.

The final sale price will determine just how historic this rare Holden becomes.
