Lamborghini builds some of the world’s greatest supercars, the Aventador and Huracan. It also builds the Urus ‘Super SUV’. What it doesn’t build is a combination of both.
That’s the domain of YouTube Chris Steinbacher and his B is for Build YouTube channel, because he has turned a Lamborghini Huracan (or at least part of one) into a radical off-road racer to compete in this year’s Mint 400.
The Mint 400 has released this video of Steinbacher giving his unique machine, which he’s nicknamed ‘The Jumpacan’, its first proper off-road test in the US desert. The ‘Jumpacan’ does donuts on a dry lake bed, tests its bespoke suspension in the whoops and jumps some sand dunes – not typical Lamborghini driving conditions.
But the ‘Jumpacan’ is very, very far from your typical Lamborghini Huracan. For starters, there isn’t much actual Lamborghini left, primarily the central portion of the chassis, which Steinbacher and his team had modified extensively in a series of videos on his channel. Some of the major differences are the engine, which is a Chevrolet LS V8, and the suspension which is all custom-made off-road hardware with significantly more travel that the stock Huracan.
Steinbacher admits in the video that the test showed up some areas for improvement, including a skid plate for better underbody protection and even more suspension travel.
The Mint 400 is due to be run in the desert outside Las Vegas on December 1-5 this year.
