'Enthusiast-focused' Subaru WRX, BRZ teased
The US division of Subaru is about to unveil limited edition, “enthusiast-focused” versions of the WRX and BRZ, which could eventually lead to an Australian berth.
Subaru’s reinvigoration of its performance division continues, with the Japanese mark’s US outpost this week announcing it’ll soon take the covers off a limited-production WRX and BRZ.
Set to be unveiled at this year’s Boxerfest on September 27, Subaru hasn’t said anything about the pair of performance cars, other than that it will “debut limited-production, enthusiast-focused editions” of the WRX and BRZ at the fan festival.
Included in the announcement was a teaser featuring the rear end of the existing WRX tS, but fitted with a carbon-fibre, swan-neck rear wing which featured on the Japan-only S210 in 2025.
While Subaru has an extended range of STI-branded and themed accessories for the WRX available globally, a wing of this design isn’t currently sold to customers.
It’s possible Subaru is adding some of the S210’s visual elements to the WRX tS, though there’s even less known about what’s in store for the BRZ.
Last year, Subaru launched the BRZ STI Sport Type RA in Japan, limited to 300 cars for the local market. Earlier this year it said this would influence a series production variant.
Alongside that latter announcement in June, the brand teased two other cars under sheets, one of which will be an updated WRX sedan fitted with the ‘TY85’ transmission from the most recent STI, while the other is expected to be the long-awaited return of the WRX hatchback.
