Australia’s Ford Performance Vehicles engineers turned the humble Falcon into a drift machine, and now you can own it.

One of Australia’s rarest automotive creations is now for sale, with the FPV DRIF6 emerging from its restoration and in the classifieds.

Currently listed on My105 for $185,000, the FPV DRIF6 is a true one-of-one vehicle, which has survived crashes, overseas expeditions and restorations to be presented in better-than-new condition.

Built in 2006 by engineers from Ford Performance Vehicles (FPV) and Prodrive Australia (the entity which ran FPV), the DRIF6 was based on the underpinnings of an early BA Falcon development car, but upgraded visually to replicate the BF MkII F6 Typhoon sedan.

Unlike most show cars or concepts which never saw action outside of motor show displays, the DRIF6 competed in the then-emerging Australian Drift Championship, where it did battle with the likes of the Toyota Corolla AE86, Nissan Silvia, and Holden Monaro.

While there were plenty of upgrades to the DRIF6 compared to the standard F6, it still retained a large number of parts from the showroom-ready car, such as its Brembo brakes, T56 manual transmission, M86 differential, 19-inch ‘Dark Argent’ wheels, and even the standard Garrett GT3582R turbocharger.

However, FPV’s boffins made sure it had enough go to get sideways and stay there, with a bespoke reverse plenum and upgraded internals helping push the legendary ‘Barra’ 4.0-litre straight-six engine up from 270kW and 550Nm to a claimed 380kW and 700Nm.

The FPV DRIF6 only competed in the 2006 Australian Drift Championship, during which veteran racer Warren Luff damaged its passenger side at Queensland Raceway.

After lying dormant for more than a decade – which included trips overseas – the DRIF6 was brought back to Australia and restored by Maxx Performance, and was wheeled out for the first time at All Ford Day in Geelong last year to celebrate 100 years of Ford Australia.

“The vehicle is being offered for sale, however the owner is under no pressure to sell and understands the significance and rarity of what is being offered. The car will only be sold to the right buyer who appreciates its unique place in Australian automotive history,” the ad reads.

The emergence of FPV DRIF6 on the marketplace follows that of another one-off, the HSV Colorado SportsCat V8, which last week was listed for sale at $300,000.
