Gordon Murray with the GMA T.33 Spider and Cosworth V12

Gordon Murray Automotive has revealed its latest creation – and it will be music to the ears of any true petrolhead.

The T.33 Spider is an open-top version of the previously revealed T.33, which means there’s less in the way between your ears and the bespoke Cosworth V12 engine that powers this boutique supercar.

As company founder and famed designer Professor Gordon Murray explained, the idea behind this latest addition to his growing brand’s portfolio is all about driver enjoyment.

“When drawing a car I imagine what it’s going to feel like to sit in, and how it will feel to drive,” Murray said. “So from the first sketch I knew that, with its open cockpit and the incredible Cosworth GMA.2 V12 engine right behind you, the T.33 Spider would deliver a truly involving driving experience that’s quite unlike anything else.”

Murray is the legendary designer responsible for Formula One winners at Brabham and McLaren, as well as the iconic McLaren F1 supercar.

Roof aside, the T.33 Spider mirrors the specifications of the 1960s inspired hard-top version that was revealed in January 2022. That means the Cosworth-built 3.9-litre V12 engine makes 454kW of power at a screaming 11,100rpm.

In keeping with Murray’s focus on maximum driving enjoyment, over pure performance, the engine is paired exclusively to a six-speed manual gearbox.

Despite convertible models typically being heavier and having compromised torsional rigidity, Murray and his team have used carbon extensively to ensure it tips the scales at just 1108kg and is just as stiff as the coupe.

To ensure that the driver and passenger can fully experience the engine, the T.33 Spider features a rear window that can be lowered to let even more engine noise in.

With all of GMA’s previous cars selling out – the T.50, T.50s and T.33 Coupe – you’ll probably want to get in quick to secure one of the 100 examples that will be built.
