The Porsche Taycan will arrive in Australia in December

Looking for the perfect Christmas gift for your Porsche-loving friend? Well, the German brand has confirmed the all-electric Taycan will arrive in Australia in December to take on the likes of the Tesla Model S and Jaguar I-Pace.

Porsche will offer three variants of its battery-powered sports sedan – the Taycan 4S, Taycan Turbo and Taycan Turbo S – each offering different performance levels and driving range.

The line-up begins with the Taycan 4S priced from $191,000 (plus on-road costs), its electric motors produce 390kW of power and 640Nm of torque allowing for a 0-100km/h time of 4.0 seconds.

It will be fitted with a 79.3kWh Performance battery as standard, which provides a range of 365km, but can be optioned with a Performance Battery Plus that boasts 93.4kWh and bumps power to 420kW, torque to 650Nm and range to 414km.

If that’s not enough for you then the Taycan Turbo, which starts at $269,100, comes standard with the superior battery. So it’s tuned to make 500kW, 850Nm and has a range of 420km.

It also cuts its acceleration time to 3.2 seconds to go from stationary to 100km/h.

Porsche Taycan owners will get access to a public charging network

But if you still want more performance from your electric cars then the Taycan Turbo S is for you.

With a starting price of $339,100 it’s not cheap, but it’s performance claims are impressive.

Its dual electric motors pump out 560kW and 1050Nm that means this four-door can run 0-100km/h in a supercar-like 2.8 seconds.

However, it’s range is slightly reduced compared to the Turbo, with a claimed 405km possible between charges.

To keep the batteries juiced up Porsche Australia has done a deal with Australia’s largest public charging provider, Chargefox.

Taycan buyers will get a three-year subscription to the Chargefox network, which includes Ultra-Rapid DC chargers capable of delivering up to 350kW; the fastest current rate of charge.

The German firm is also establishing its own “Destination Charging network” that will install chargers at hotels, restaurants, wineries and other “premium venues” that are likely to attract Porsche owners.

These units (with 11 currently installed) will be capable of charging both the Taycan and the brand’s plug-in hybrid models, the Cayenne and Panamera.
