Mercedes-AMG has set a new lap record for a production car at Germany’s famous Nurburgring beating the time set by… Mercedes-AMG.
Maro Engel, the Mercedes-AMG factory ace sent to help the German brand’s Supercars efforts with Erebus, lowered the record he sent in October 2022 in the Mercedes-AMG One hypercar by five seconds in a new run at the 20km circuit, running a 6:29.09 second lap. Despite claiming the record in 2022, the AMG crew always wanted to return as track conditions on the day weren’t ideal and it felt the Formula 1-inspired hypercar had more time in it.

“Two years ago, the conditions were not ideal, and some sections of the track were still a little damp,” Engel explained. “We knew we could do more, and we wanted to show that. Today we were able to demonstrate the maximum potential of the AMG One.”

The AMG One is powered by a road-legal version of the F1 championship winning powertrain the German brand has used in the current hybrid era. It features a 1.6-litre turbocharged V6 engine with hybrid assistance.
