Mitsubishi Triton street truck, off-road monster revealed
If you think Australia has a strong ute culture, Mitsubishi’s New Zealand division has shown they still love the Triton across the ditch.
The current generation Mitsubishi Triton has been the subject of numerous modification combinations since launching in 2024.
In its home market of Thailand, there’s a Triton Street edition with a different face on the Club Cab body. In Brazil the Mitsubishi Triton Savana gets heaps of off-road accessories to be tougher off the beaten track.
Of course, Australia recently received the Triton Raider, sold by Mitsubishi but modified extensively by Premcar to take on the likes of the Ford Ranger Tremor and Toyota HiLux Rogue X.

Not wanting to feel left out, Mitsubishi’s New Zealand arm has revealed a pair of Tritons at the Fieldays agricultural show in Hamilton, each with very different takes on the ute.
The first version (above) is a ‘street truck’ version of the Triton VRX (similar to the Triton GSR sold in Australia), with its ground clearance all but eliminated.
Likely running on air suspension, its huge wheels sit flush with the wheel-arches, while the front axles feature camber to get the wheels tucked in.

Mitsubishi NZ’s second Triton takes an entirely different path, seemingly taking all the height that was removed from the street truck and adding it to the dual-cab ute.
Made with the obvious intention of going off-road, the tougher Triton features a heavy-duty bullbar, a bashplate, winch, snorkel and oversized wheels which stick far out from under the guards – something which would see it defected on Australian roads.
Unfortunately for our Kiwi cousins, Mitsubishi has no plans to sell either Triton variant in New Zealand, instead using Fieldays as a display of what the ute is capable of.
